Mathematics Award (Grade 11)

This award is a mathematics subject award given to the top student who consistently demonstrates exceptional comprehension and profound enthusiasm for mathematics throughout the academic year, attaining a top-level performance within the designated grade level. The mathematics course I enrolled for this academic year (2022-2023) was the AP Calculus BC course.

Spanish Language Award (Grade 10)

This award is a Spanish language subject award given to the top student who consistently demonstrates extraordinary understanding and profound passion for the Spanish language throughout the academic year, attaining a top-level performance within the designated grade level. The Spanish course I enrolled for this academic year (2021-2022) was Spanish Ⅱ.

Korean Language and History Award (Grade 10)

This award is a Korean Language & History subject award given to the top student who consistently demonstrates outstanding comprehension and a strong passion for the Korean Language and History throughout the academic year, attaining a top-level performance within the designated grade level. The academic year for this course was the 2021-2022 academic year.

High Honor Roll

The High Honor Roll is awarded to students who attain a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 GPA scale during the designated academic semester. This distinguished recognition is given to those who have displayed exceptional academic prowess and unwavering commitment to their studies. I have received the High Honor Roll for every academic semester throughout my high school years.

CollegeBoard AP Awards

These are the official AP Awards from Collegeboard. The AP Scholar with Distinction Award is given for achieving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams. The AP Scholar with Honor Award recognizes exemplary college-level achievement for attaining an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams.

Korea Science & Engineering Fair (KSEF) International 2022, Silver Award

This award is an award from an international competition of Korea Science & Engineering Fair (KSEF) in 2022. I wrote a research paper titled “Gradient-based Neural Model Prediction Control for Continuous-Time Control of Quadrotors,” which proposes a new deep-learning-based control model for quadrotors using gradient-based neural model prediction. After presenting the research to approved professors and experts, I was awarded a Silver Award in this international competition.

USA Computing Olympiad, Gold Division

This proves that I won the Gold Division standard in the USA Computing Olympiad, an international online programming competition which acts as qualification for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in the United States of America.

Youth International Science Fair (YISF) 2023, Gold Medal

This award is an award from an international competition of Youth International Science Fair (YISF) in 2023. It was a competition held in Indonesia, and I submitted the revised, or advanced, version of my KSEF research paper “Gradient-based Neural Model Prediction Control for Continuous-Time Control of Quadrotors,” which proposes a new deep-learning-based control model for quadrotors using gradient-based neural model prediction. After presenting the research to approved professors and experts online (Zoom), I was awarded a Gold Medal in this international competition.

The 4th 4.3 English Speech Contest, Governor of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Award (2nd Place)

This award is from the 4th 4.3 English Speech Contest, which is a national English speech contest discussing the April 3rd incident in Jeju, South Korea that happened from April 1948 to September 1954. The incident was a violent suppression of civilians by South Korean soldiers and resulted in a large number of casualties and significant political and social repercussions during the post-World War Ⅱ period in Korea. During the speech, I compared and contrasted the stories of the survivors of the incident and the famous story of Anne Frank during World War Ⅱ. Eventually, I received the Governor of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Award and a 500,000 KRW grant.

Korea Scholar’s Conference for Youth (KSCY), Excellent Youth Scholars Award (Natural Sciences: Mathematics)

This award is from a national competition of Korea Scholar’s Conference for Youth (KSCY) in 2022, which includes various fields such as mathematics, computer science, and social sciences. My research was “Pi Approximation Using Series Including Central Binomial Coefficient” in the mathematics field, which suggests a new approach to pi approximation using series including the Central Binomial Coefficient and calculation of time complexity. I was awarded an Excellent Youth Scholars Award (Natural Sciences: Mathematics) for this competition.

Humanities Project Proposal Contest, ROK Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (3rd Place)

This award is from the government-sponsored Humanities Project Proposal Contest in 2022. I proposed a business model for solving the rising issue of generational conflicts in South Korea. The main objective of the business is to develop interesting stories based on the true experiences of the seniors (elderlies) by hiring authors or aspiring writers. By proposing this business model in the contest, I received 3rd place and a 500,000 KRW grant from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Immerse Education Essay Competition 2023, Scholarship Award (Engineering)

This award is from the Immerse Education Essay Competition held in 2023. I wrote an essay regarding the topic “How would you demonstrate the difference between Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR)?” for the engineering sector for ages 16-18. I priorly explained some key distinctions between AR and VR and explained how the big tech firms are developing different strategies for the two different technologies. Eventually, I won a Scholarship Award in the Engineering sector for this competition.

The 6th Global Youth Environmental Essay Competition 2022, Superintendent of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Award (1st place)

The 6th Global Youth Environmental Essay Competition held in 2022 was about writing an essay regarding the topic of “Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality.” The competition was sponsored by many Korean organizations including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT, and it was eligible for middle and high school students from any country. In the essay, I wrote about the variations in catches of fisheries and the effect of climate change on our daily lives. Eventually, I won 1st place in the competition and received the Superintendent of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Award.

International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC), Silver Honour

This award is from the International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC), which is one of the biggest online math competition that enables students from all countries to prove their math skills and to unleash their creativity. I solved the mathematical questions throughout the qualification and pre-final rounds and won the Silver Honour.

2020 International Math Kangaroo Korea, Bronze Prize

This award is from the International Math Kangaroo Competition of Korea in 2020. I solved challenging mathematical questions within a limited time and eventually won the Bronze Prize in the competition.

JA Korea-Samsung Entrepreneurship Playground Festival 2021, Finalist

The JA Korea-Samsung Entrepreneurship Playground Festival is a national competition sponsored by the JA-Korea and Samsung partnership. It is a year-long program in which experts and professionals lecture students about how to develop a business model. More than 200 teams at least two people in each team participated, and about 10 teams, including my team, became finalists. I developed a business model of “Veggie Fin,” which is an alternative to a shark fin for vegans. This business benefits vegans by developing an alternative option for luxury food and reducing overfishing in the oceans, eventually contributing to marine environment protection. I led the team as a leader and eventually won the Finalist Award.

One World Business Competition 2021 Spring, Business Challenge Finalist

This award is from the One World Business Competition (Business Challenge) held in spring of 2021. It was a national competition in South Korea where high school students competed based on their business ideas or models. In this competition, I developed a business called “Foodurs,” which solves food waste and famine by reselling nearly expired food at a very low cost. Eventually, I won the Finalist Award for the competition.

GEC Business Competition Ⅱ, Online Platform Finalist

This award is from the GEC Business Competition Ⅱ (Online Platform) held in 2020. It was a local competition of the Global Education City (GEC), where high school students in the city competed based on their business ideas or models. In this competition, I proposed a business called “Fundle,” which is an online platform connecting tourists and local attractions and providing package deals for the tour at discounted prices. Eventually, I won the Finalist Award for the competition for this business model.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Silver Standard

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Silver Standard is an award received for completing volunteer activities, physical training, and self-improvement for six months in addition to three days of adventure experience, achieving the purpose non-formal education and learning of the program.
